Cancer doesn’t discriminate, and it’s so far reaching that it’s frightening. It seems like every day, someone we know is diagnosed with some form of the disease. This is why, in 2013, I teamed up with my friend and colleague, gluten-free and education specialist, Angie Cowen, from Love Life and Gluten Free, to support individuals facing trauma and illness in their lives.
We are fuelled by an irrepressible passion to help and support people enduring cancer treatments and other such life altering events. Ladies in Pink was born.
For the past two years, we’ve held wonderful High Tea events in Sydney, which have featured guest speakers who have inspired & entertained packed audiences. All proceeds have been given directly to two organisations focused on breast cancer research – The Cancer Council and the Garvan Institute via Love Your Sister.
This year, we are moving in a slightly different direction, and we are raising funds for a very special registered charity and wellness sanctuary – Petrea King’s Quest for Life Foundation, which is based in the beautiful ‘Scottish’ town of Bundanoon, in the NSW Southern Highlands.
Petrea herself will be attending as a special guest and will be speaking at the event. Our theme this year was chosen as it is so close to our hearts – Living with Presence. The conversations we will have will focus on how you can navigate through adversity by being present. We will have some extremely inspirational conversations with our panel about how they did just that.
Expect to be inspired, educated and connected to what is possible for you, your community and this beautiful planet that we all share.
The High Tea itself will be held ay Leichhardt town Hall, but we will also be promoting ‘Host a Dinner’ option so you can help raise funds for Quest for Life, too. Simply gather your friends together, enjoy a beautiful feast prepared by you (or all of you) and donate to Quest for Life (Ladies in Pink suggests a $30-50pp donation).
About Quest for Life
Quest for Life runs retreats and community based workshops for people facing cancer, grief, AIDS, depression, anxiety and other traumas. They provide proven, effective, holistic approach to strengthening the participant’s physical, mental and emotional wellbeing, while at the same time encouraging, educating and empowering participants to develop emotional resilience and peace of mind in times of extreme need.
The Quest Project
Massage is an integral part of the program. Indeed, it has been proven that touch and remedial massage help people to release and process emotion. Currently, Quest for Life doesn’t have a designated massage room due to water damage to an adjacent building to the main building. This year we have taken on a project to renovate this room. We have called in builders to give selflessly their time and material to have this room in use. To renovate this existing room is a big project to take on, we know it and we are committed to have this room in use this year.
The fund raising aim is $33, 000, which we hope to raise through our High Tea with Love and Host a Dinner. With your support and our generous sponsors this is ever so achievable.
