Ayurvedic medicine — also known as Ayurveda — is one of the world’s oldest holistic (whole-body) healing systems. It was developed thousands of years ago in India. It is based on the belief that health and wellness depend on a delicate balance between the mind, body, and spirit.
Since beginning my Yoga & Meditation journey in 1998 I have always been intrigued by the science of Ayurveda. In 2004 I completed my Internationally Accredited Cert. IV in Yoga Teacher Training at Yoga Arts Byron Bay. Here I began to dive deeper into Ayurveda and how it correlates with Yoga. In 2008, I complete my Certificate in Ayurveda with Dr Rama Prasad. Since I have incorporated Ayurvedic principles in my Yoga classes and lifestyle.
One of my most honourable teachers, Rose Baudin once said, ‘It is essential to understand the science of Ayurveda first, then one can begin to practice Yoga.’ This is true for Yoga to be prescribed to each individual one must know their constitution to ensure they balance their systems not aggravate it. Usually like attracts like therefore we are often attracted to the practice which is not the best prescribed for our constitution. This means ‘ojas’ which is our essential life energy becomes depleted.
Weaving Ayurvedic principles with our current season in Yoga, is like weaving the most beautiful and well designed tapestry.
